What a key buys
A key raises the limits on the same observations everyone reads: Reconcile by API at 5,000 IDs a call, the full transition log as CSV with provenance on every row, the events API without the 250-row cap, and 1,000 requests an hour. It does not change what is observed or how often the register is read.
What the data is
TTB’s public COLA registry is the record of authority. Struckwire is a log of observations of that registry: what it showed, and when we read it. The log has gaps, and they are described on the methodology page. A status change can take more than seven days to appear here. Nothing here is a finding about any permit holder.
Billing
The key is a subscription, billed monthly by the payment processor until it is cancelled. The processor handles the payment and sends the receipt.
Cancelling
Cancel any time through the processor’s billing page, linked from the pricing page. The key keeps working to the end of the month already paid for, and that month is not refunded.
Revocation
A key may be revoked if it is used to get around the limits, or if it is published. A revoked key stops working at once.
What we hold about you
Nothing that names you. This site stores the subscription’s id and status and nothing else: no name, no email address, no postal address, no card. The processor holds those, under its own terms. Because we have no address for you, we cannot send you your key; the page you land on after paying shows it for as long as the subscription is active.
